In a new publication which celebrates 40 years the since the formation of Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway Plc, steam locomotive department volunteer and cameraman Paul Stratford has produced a stunning record of the rebirth of operations – from the earliest beginnings to the current 14 miles between Cheltenham Racecourse station and Broadway.
Using his extensive knowledge of the area, the route of the railway and the operating timetable, the author has produced a full colour pictorial publication with images stretching back three decades of the many home-based locomotives plus visiting locomotives hauling trains along the railway through the magnificent Cotswolds scenery for which the heritage railway is renowned, in each of the four seasons from high summer to cold atmospheric winter mornings.
With many of the featured locomotives no longer in service and new regulations governing access to many of the trackside locations along the route, the publication serves as a never-to-be-repeated record of the progress of operations on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway over that 30 year period.
